ACI Provides USF Upward Bound Scholarships for Second Year
For the second consecutive year, Abundant Commitment, Inc. (ACI), provided scholarships to a select group of applicants from the University of South Florida (USF) Upward Bound Program. ACI founder and chairman, Michael Olodude, presented the awards at USF Upward Bound's awards ceremony on May 18, 2013.
This year ACI expanded the number of scholarships awarded from 3 to 7, in 3 award levels: 2 platinum level awards, 3 gold and 1 silver level award, with the platinum level having the highest value, followed by gold and silver, respectively. ACI board members selected 7 deserving USF Upward Bound Program students as award recipients from a pool of applicants. Each recipient was required to meet several criteria including a minimum GPA, participation in community service projects, letters of recommendation, a written essay and acceptance into a college or university for the fall 2013 semester.
The two platinum level award recipients, Anayah Walker and Kendrick Nelson, each received $1,500 in scholarship funds. Erica Comer, Edward Morfa and Tanaisha Ralph, were each recognized as gold level award recipients and received laptop computers. Kimberly De Gracia qualified for the silver level award and received a dorm-ready luggage package.
The USF Upward Bound Program aligns with ACI's mission given that it helps low-income and first generation college entrants prepare for college life. The program includes a rigorous 6-week residential college orientation program where students are introduced to a variety of educational, cultural and social experiences.
